The Laboratory for Experimental Surgery, Dissection and Injection of the Urogenital Research Unit develops research work applied to urology, using experimental models (dogs and pigs, mainly), corpse samples in adults and human fetuses, comparing the results in humans and in experimental models. Besides experimental surgery, the laboratory has great experience in injection-corrosion techniques in adults and fetuses, radiologic anatomy, meso and microscopic dissection and their applications in urology, having published and supervised numerous papers on this field.

The physical facilities of the laboratory include: a) - Anatomic room, with benches for dissection (macro, meso and micro) and injection-corrosion techniques; b) - Operating room for experimental surgery in small sized animals (rats, guinea pigs and rabbits); c) - Basic equipment such as analytical balance, digital balance with 1-gram precision, refrigerator, big freezer for storage of biologic - anatomic material, equipment for vascular injection and in cavities (macro, meso and microscopic), surgical material in general, various polymers for injection, digital pachymeters, conventional and digital cameras for documentation; d) - equipment for micro, meso and microsurgery: stereoscopic surgical microscopes, light equipment by optic fiber, microsurgery material, etc.; e) - Animal room and operating room for middle sized animals, shared, in the same building.
